The World's #1 Carpet Cutting Machine Since 1990 | ACCU-CUT

Accu-Cut celebrates 30 years

Posted on Floor Covering Weekly Thursday, December 17, 2020

Not even the Covid-19 Pandemic could keep Brockie International, parent company of Accu-Cut, from celebrating thirty years in business.

The company’s growth has continued since its 25th anniversary. “In the past five years, we have grown quite a lot. We opened an office in Dalton in 2018. We have added 10 people to the team and sales are up about 30 percent overall in the last five years,” reported Trevor Brockie, vice president of Accu-Cut, a supplier of carpet cutting machinery. “Orders have picked up and Accu-Cut is now making six or eight machines at a time,” Trevor Brockie said.

“We have been selected as the supplier of cutting equipment for floor covering professionals throughout the world including such companies as The Home Depot, Sherwin-Williams, Abbey Carpet, Flooring America, GCO Carpet Outlets, Carpet One, Stone Mountain Carpet Mills, Shaw Flooring Network, Carpets Plus of America and many others,” reported Trevor Brockie.

March and April were really slow, but then things started up again, Trevor Brockie said. “People aren’t traveling or going out for entertainment. They’re also working from home so now they are fixing up the house,” he reported. “Home has become a safe haven. Consumers can even shop for carpet at home. And now they are at home to meet the installer to get rid of ugly flooring.”

And “Section 179 of the IRS tax code states that equipment can be purchased and then can be written off as an expense,” Trevor Brockie explained.

Advancements continue

Starting with one model, Accu-Cut now has diversified machines. “All the machines can cut vinyl or carpet and carpet pad, and are suitable for residential or commercial products,” said Scott Brockie, president.

The latest machines run at higher speeds for higher production and have more digital controls, including an automated measuring system and the ability to link into software. “You can send sizes needed to the cutting machine from the showroom floor, eliminating errors,” Scott Brockie said. “The biggest change since the early machines is user friendliness and automation including a feed table allowing the operator to stage rolls on a conveyor system that feeds rolls one at a time, as opposed to having to move the rolls manually. A full roll of carpet can weigh 600 to 1200 pounds and vinyl is 600 to 800 pounds,” he explained. “We have placed more than 6,000 machines around the world, including South Africa, Europe, Australia and New Zealand as well as the U.S. and Canada.”

The T12 is a new machine developed to cut artificial turf. The X77 has an extra long inspection area for dealers and distributors who want more space to check.

Fox Floors and Accu-Cut: Better together

[Ocean Township, N.J.] The Foxes know flooring and Marshall Fox, the third generation of his family to work in the business since it was established in 1946, said, “The Accu-Cut machine has changed my life in the 10 years we have owned it.”

Retailer Fox Floors stocks hundreds of rolls of carpet and had always done all the cutting by hand on the warehouse floor. “Cutting on the floor is very difficult. And it’s hard on your knees and your back. Twenty years ago, carpet was big and I would be cutting on the floor all day,” Fox recalled. “I begged my father (Ed Fox) to get me a machine for about two years. He got a standup cutter, which was not much better than cutting on the floor. Then I started doing research and found the Accu-Cut. They were recommended and we got the machine, a Q7, in 2010. It was the best day of my work life.”

The Accu-Cut is a time saver. “Cutting time that would have been 30 minutes, is now five minutes. You get the carpet roll set, type in the cuts and it starts rolling and cutting, You can inspect the carpet as it comes off and is rolled up,” Marshall Fox explained.

The design of the Q7 is super safe and virtually problem-free, he added. “Ours is in use every day. It is serviced twice a year. If there is a problem, I just call Trevor Brockie for help. It’s a great company for service. Having the Accu-Cut is the difference between having to walk ten miles everyday work or having a chauffeur driven limo pick you up.”
